PACT Methodology V3: Methodology for Calculating and Exchanging Cradle-to-Gate Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs)

The PACT Methodology Version 3 provides a harmonized, transparent, and practical framework for product-level carbon accounting. Developed through two years of global consultation, V3 expands to include:

  • Guidance on land sector emissions & removals
  • Improved electricity accounting and technological capture, storage & utilization
  • Service-based businesses
  • Step-by-step verification pathways and stronger data reliability

Building form global an cross-sectors standards, PACT V3 helps businesses better measure, exchange, and act on emissions data with greater accuracy and reliability across supply chains.

Please note: PACT Methodology V2 is now withdrawn and PACT Methodology V3 released 30 April 2025 shall be used for all new PCF calculations. PCFs calculated with PACT Methodology V2 prior to the release of V3 shall remain valid and may be used for three years from day of calculation unless otherwise requiring recalculation. Recalculation is required when: 1) there are major changes (>10%) in production processes within the validity period; OR 2) the product contains significant biogenic or land sector related emissions (i.e., when a product is (partly) bio-based and contains over 5% biogenic carbon content). In these cases the PCF shall be recalculated using the latest PACT Methodology V3.
