Guidelines for Calculating Carbon Footprints for Paper-based Packaging
This guideline document provides support for the individual associations in the paper packaging converting sector and member companies to calculate their carbon footprint.
Scope and boundary
The current version of the guidance facilitates calculations using both cradle-to-gate and cradle-to-grave boundaries
Biogenic emissions and removals
The two guidance are not fully aligned yet, PACT has been adapted to reflect the forthcoming GHG Protocol Land Sector and Removals Standard. FEFCO includes a biogenic emissions and removals guidance and will align with the GHG Protocol in the next version
FEFCO is also waiting for the GHG Protocol FLAG guidance for forestry and forest products, which is relevant for their products, before updating their methodology
To align with PACT Methodology: Follow the requirements as indicated in Chapter 3.3.2.4 of the PACT Methodology
Validity period
The current version of the guidance does not specify a PCF validity period

Data quality metrics
The current version of the guidance does not specify data quality metrics

Verification
The current version of the guidance does not include specific requirements about the level and basis for verification. Additionally, it is currently allowing for first party verification
